Rangatiki Historic Home Stead Investigation By Core Paranormal NZ
Held On the 20th of July 2011
Due to the volume of  hard wired stationary equipment used on this investigation, it is not practical to list these equipment placements. There was Also a large amount portable equipment used as well, some setup  stationary and some portable. Also any data (resting Reading) readings that were taken on the night will be noted throughout this web report and not at the beginning as we would normally do, the building and property  is to large to make it practical to list all the resting readings and equipment placements in the beginning of this report.

Also this investigation will take many visits to cover the entire historic homestead
Internal &external Investigation

This equipment took the crew hours to setup, luckily there was no major technical problems during setup time:
Servants quarters (third level, 6 cameras used)

Almost immediately activity was noted on one of the DVR’s, even while it was not set to record and cameras were still being added and set up.  While the crew member and Victoria noted a misty substance on the archive stairway just behind them, nothing was seen by them with the naked eye.  George had a similar experience while setting up that DVR.  While sitting at the top of the archive stairs, fiddling with the monitor George felt something pushed past him on the stairs.  The feeling was so strong he went to the second level to ask if anyone had started up the stairs toward him, or had seen anything strange.  On later review of footage, George is seen to be covered by a darkish grey mist, not at all seen at the time but George felt it.
Also while on the first floor foyer, the crew member was connecting cameras to the 16 DVR, and George and Victoria were winding out cords to cameras in various rooms, the crew member kept feeling the sense she was being watched from the direction of the bottom of the Archive Stairway.  While the feeling was not unnerving, it was enough to make her turn around to check if someone was there several times.  Each time of course there was no one noticeably present, but she was left with a distinct feeling someone was popping in and out of sight at the bottom of that stairway.
Weather Conditions:

On arrival still cool and overcast, later rain developed with a very slight breeze:
The area around the Archive Stairway seemed to attract most of the activity of the top level.  During the course of the night many ‘dust storms’ were recorded coming up the stairway; while in themselves not of paranormal nature, the cause for such noticeable yet sporadic stir up's is not easily identifiable.  At the time all investigators were together, and all downstairs doorways and windows from which a breeze or wind strong enough to cause such dust storms were closed, and also we noted at the time there was no wind, On further investigation of the occurring dust storms there was nothing obvious that may have caused them, although it would not be considered unusual for such a large building to have draughts, however no other cameras recorded the activity level as the ones on the Archive Stairs.
After about an hour into the investigation, all three investigators made their way to the match lining room, this is located at the top right side of the Archive Stairway. We all sat together on the bench at the far end of the room for approximately 20 minutes, and took part in an EVP vigil (Electro-Magnetic Voice Phenomena) recording; the vigil was constructed by asking questions of any present spirits and recording any possible responses, even if nothing is heard at the time.  During the recording of this vigil, many other typical questions were asked of any present spirits, including:  If there is anyone here who would like to communicate with us, would they like to come forward and tell us their name, or make a noise into the recorder, or any other way that they might be comfortable using to communicate with, what was the job you used to do in relation to the house?  Were you perhaps a maid, or teacher or owner, do you like or disagree with any changes that have been made to the house or property over the years?  Is there anything else you would like to tell us. We also thanked any present entities for their time and for having us there, as we do at every vigil we hold out of respect.

During the vigil nothing was physically heard by any of the investigators, afterwards review and analysis of the voice recorded proved much more fruitful.  While many questions were met with silence, there was one question asked by the crew member and it was:  Do you like any of the changes made to the building over the years? It appears to have been answered.  While it is not completely clear what that answer is; perhaps through their own way it is made by a distinctly deep female voice, slightly raspy, also sounding almost like they were giving someone an order to do a task of some sort, with an authoritative tone.

Another interesting episode occurred while the investigators were sitting in the match lining room.  Facing the doorway they could all clearly see the top part of the staircase, and we all occasionally talked of seeing movement appearing to come up the stairs.  This movement was unclear and indistinct, much like that what one sees out of the corner of your eye, but when you look more closely there is nothing there to make you believe you saw anything at all, afterwards we discussed the possibility, were we all experiencing pareidolia at the same time.

At one point all three investigators, George, Victoria and the crew member conferred and agreed, that they thought they had seen something like a cat coming up the stairs.  Not a solid or full form, this appeared as in the form of the top of a cats head, with ears and the tail following along. However  In the space of two banisters palings which are situated outside the door, this glimpse was gone.  The feature of a catlike apparition featured for a bit of the evening in discussion, as investigators felt like someone or something was playing ‘cat’n’mouse’ with them during the evening.
Again video later viewed via analysis of the DVR footage, also appear to support the ‘cat’n’mouse’ theory. Video on one DVR shows George watching the DVR screen that he is setting up at the time, while to the left rear of him, in essence, a small white stick-like item moves about in front of him on the stairs. And on the footage it appears glowing in essence, also another movement coming in from the top right corner, leaping over George and just disappearing, again, this image of something that somewhat resembles a cat, and acts as if it is stalking the other moving object.  This is unusual footage that the investigators have not encountered before in any other investigations, it is the first animal entity we had ever seen and also recorded. Again this ‘cat’ was only backed up after the fact having been recorded, some movement only seen with the infra-red cams and other movement visible with the naked eye.

Another common capture on the cameras of the top level was bright white orb phenomena, particularly in the main, long room. Which is situated at the very top of the stairway,  It is unknown at this time if this is potentially one spirit or any number, as the captures were fairly consistent, appearing alone or seeming to follow investigators around.
First Level and Ground (16 DVR cameras used)

The first floor level of the building held the least DVR results of all. There was very little dust was recorded on this floor, and nothing substantial that might qualify as paranormal.

However, on this floor three exceptional Thermal Camera images were taken by George, one not even noticed until analysis of data at a later date.

At the end of the second level foyer, going into the hallway at the bottom of the original servants quarters staircase an area of carpet was quiet sodden from rain coming through a leak in the roof.  Toward the end of the evening George, Victoria and the crew member started down that hallway in that order, hearing their footsteps ‘squelching’ over the wet carpet.  As the crew member stepped back onto the dry carpet she reported hearing two extra ‘squelching’ footsteps behind her.  While George took thermal images, the crew member took several digital images.  Straight away the thermal camera appeared to show three shots of a woman’s image forming, while on review the digital camera showed nothing.

This shady thermal image appears to show what investigators feel is female figure, perhaps with long hair and a shawl or blanket pulled around her shoulders.  It is by no means as clear as the second thermal image of a woman; however the circumstances of its capture make it a very good capture.

The second thermal capture has three images, the first is faint in structure, but the second and third images are much clearer, but in many ways appears it may have captured the same woman in motion, walking behind us.

While most of the investigators time was spent in the old servant’s quarters, the time spent and data analysis from the ground floor level also proved to be very interesting.  Not so much was captured on the DVR cameras; however the investigators experiences on this level are worth mentioning.

All three investigators spent some time in the basement, sitting on the stairs and doing both an EVP vigil and experiencing the atmosphere.Again standard questions were asked while the voice recorder was running, however from this vigil nothing was found with the analysis of the recorder.George did have a short, uncomfortable encounter while sitting on the stairs however. At one point he reported that he felt he had been ‘zapped’, a term used by the investigators when they have come into contact with a more negative essence or spirit.Normally this feeling is accompanied by feeling sick, headache, tiredness and lethargy that may last days after an investigation. For George it entailed beginning to feel a headache and a general feeling of unease, after several moments of requesting that whatever it was ‘back off:’George started to feel the headache ease and the general feeling lighten.

That was not the only unsettling episode of the basement however.Upon leaving the basement via  the stairway, the crew member was several meters behind George and Victoria, and when she reached the third from top step she was overtaken with a sense of discomfort and unease, and quickly exited the stairs right into the dining room.  While she felt or heard nothing physical, a sense of panic over-ran the crew member - not a feeling that they had often given in to.  On analysis of the DVR camera from this area, sometime after the crew member exits the basement stairs a very bright orb phenomena follows the route they had taken.

The investigators used a small kitchen located on the ground floor to take a break and have a snack.  And perhaps the last major episode of the evening worth mentioning occurred to George in this area.Unknown to him, after the break the crew member and Victoria had returned to the first floor level.  Downstairs George was sure he saw a figure move into the hallway by the kitchen, thinking the other investigators were still downstairs he followed after them.  Of course there was no one there, and when questioned via walkie-talkie the girls explained they were already upstairs.
Conclusion

This investigation proved very interesting for the Core Team.  While the night was not devoid of telling moments, the analysis of the data - while laborious held enough extra evidence to leave investigators in little doubt that at least one spirit remains in residence at  the homestead. The general feeling by those present on the night is that the main spirit is female, perhaps from the early 1900’s - perhaps a matron or maid figure.  Overall the feeling of the property is one of calmness and serenity, with little in the way of foreboding experienced during the investigation.

The most active area by far proved to be the top level, or servant’s quarters. Unusually most of the activity there is centered near the Archive Stairway; which being a newer addition to the building is not readily understood.  However, the property has had a busy and checkered past and there is no real reason to think some of the energies from days past would not still remain.

The team from Core NZ are thankful for the access they have had to the home stead, and look forward to returning, we and believe we have identified areas of the building that would be worthy of further investigation, and in the future we will include the grounds as well.  These of course include the top level of the house, and the team would like to try further verbal communication with any spirits present.
